Job Description of a Medical Assistant
A Medical Assistant or MA is a health allied occupational job which allows an individual to perform administrative or clinical tasks to help ensure the physician’s facility is running in good shape. The tasks can range from billing to drawing blood samples depending on the medical facility involved, and the type of physician running it. Medical facilities depend on MA’s to perform all the duties the physicians don’t want to perform which can include almost anything that doesn’t require a medical degree.

Process of Certification
Working as a medical assistant is not required about 6 months to a year of education that allows individuals to learn the necessary skills needed to perform sufficiently in their medical field. Attending or receiving a degree is the first step to becoming a medical assistant, which can be achieved through various medical schools and programs offered to make the process as fast and efficient as possible to get those assistants working on gaining experience in the medical field as soon as possible. The process takes about 9 months to complete the certification process, and the MA is usually more than ready to work for any Medical facility at this point ranging from hospitals to private practices owned by physicians in various medical fields.

Exploring the Career Path
A medical assistant doesn’t have to be certified right away to able to obtain a job as one. Many medical facilities hire medical assistant’s as interns for a few months until the assistant is ready before placing them on full time pay plus benefits, and the hire process all depends on how cooperative is the intern MA. Being a cooperative team member in a medical facility is the most important thing, as in transparency in all matters to keep the doctor and the staff up to date on everything going on in the facility.

Areas of Employment For a Medical Assistant
Working as an MA can start an individual at a medical practice privately owned by a physician, or in the environment of a hospital. Regardless on where a medical assistant starts, hands on training is usually what sharpens their skills.

Average Salary Information 
The average salary of a medical assistant is $31,799 per year. Keep in mind that there are all different types of medical assistants based on the physician’s needs. They can cover the front office or the back office. There are Podiatric and Ophthalmic medical assistants as well. Some even work in hospitals. Because of this, the pay rate ranges from about $9 to $18 per hour. Most medical facilities look for individuals who haven’t started their medical career yet, if they chose to go that route, to start them out working for them because of the full time basis of the job and the long hours associated with it. Based on the job duties required by each medical assistant, the pay is more than generous and helps many reach higher levels of education in the medical field. Medical assistants can use this job as a stepping stone to achieve hands on experience while gaining discipline from the physician and the staff involved.
